Business Lessons from the Elf on the Shelf!

Love it or hate it, the Elf on the Shelf is back in homes across the country!

Here we look at some of the lessons business owners can learn from those cheeky elves.

Planning

At what is already a busy time of year, parents of young children can struggle to keep up with the daily mischief brought by the elves! Planning ahead can be a big help – instead of leaving it to the last minute, do some research and have a rough idea of the elves’ schedule in advance.

We are always reminding businesses about the importance of forward planning. Aside from giving business owners and staff a sense of direction, having plans in place allows businesses more time, space and options to make decisions.

Consistency

Like it or not, once the elves arrive at the start of December, they’re there to stay until Christmas Eve. So consistency is key! Consistency is important in so many aspects of a business – providing stability and a cohesive message to staff and customers alike. Systems can help businesses to stay consistent, as can delegating responsibility and outsourcing, where appropriate!

Expect the unexpected

As December goes on, the antics of the elves can sometimes become more and more unusual! The past few years have taught us all this lesson – both in life as in business…expect the unexpected!

The personal touch…

As the cheeky elves get up to mischief and report back to Santa, there’s nothing quite like using a family in-joke as one of the scenarios. The personal touch is something that businesses can often under-estimate. Customers are used to being treated as a number, so when a business goes out of its way to personalise their experience, it really does stand out.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our fun look at business through the eyes of Santa’s little helpers. From our business to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas.
